Oooo...
21 pages in Player search / Recent users to cover the last 24 hours... Thats better... It's been around 4-5 pages for a long time...
There must be some TheBroth advertising going on... Do we see the dawn of a new age... |

Yay... There are still a few old timers around...
I may not do a great deal of art at the moment but I do try to keep up on whats being done...
However I worry for the future of the site... back to 5 pages to show recent users...
... and still very little news from the devels or Markus on whats round the corner... |

I couldn't agree more. I've read Brrr's comments on Tanya26's blog as well and the expression he used ("a ghost town") seems to fit well the current state of the site. What I liked about theBroth was that there were a group of people who visited it and submitted new art regularly. Now, many of them haven't showed up for months. That's natural but, what's worse, new *regular* users don't come. TheBorth misses a group of members who know well each other, exchange ideas, create a community. I think it's the most important thing for a site to be alive.
Also, I remember the times we were constantly in touch with the crew, we could express our wishes and ideas and many of them were made come true immediately. These days we don't even know what happens to MS and FF.

It's hard to have a community when you have no idea when anyone's on (I haven't had notifications for anything since last year) or when it seems like the people in charge of this place are just sort of abandoning it.
The last time Markus was in a room was to discuss copyright infringement with hirngespinnst. The last time he commented on anything here was to answer an insult misspie said to him. No one has answered a bug report since November of 2007. And, I see people practically begging for explanations and nothing comes. It really makes me angry to see them being ignored like this - they don't deserve it.
So, I've said my piece. I still plan to visit when I can - I met some very good folks here and, some days, I'm lucky enough to run into them. But, unless there is some administrative participation again, I don't think that things will get much better here. And that will really be a shame. |

Hi folks, we have been busy with some Facebook apps. The sad truth is that in general, users are more easy to excite with a jigsaw puzzle than with a collaborative art application.
A jigsaw puzzle game you don't need to explain, hey, it's jigsaws. Try that with TheBroth's collaborative art!
We haven't given up on the collaborative art, it always has been slated to be re-released on Facebook, only this just hasn't happened yet.
I very much hope that we can revive TheBroth's collaborative art in the future, in one shape or another. For the time being, it's an app that's not terribly broken but at the same time, it's not an app that naturally grows because it currently doesn't include any viral aspects.
In May 2007 we came back from a US trip, all full of plans to work on more viral aspects (so you can put one's art anywhere, like a widget, etc), but then Facebook happened and we've been busy ever since.
I love TheBroth's collaborative mosaic and graffiti like on the first day, but we were unable to attract a large crowd, and we were unable to turn into into a sustainable business.
We worked very hard on this site but as a company, we need to create revenues. This is a lot easier with applications that DO attract large crowds.
For example, today we've released a Facebook application called "Kick Ass!", believe it or not.
It's a TheBroth production and who knows, if it gets popular, we can definitely advertise the collaborative art on that application, and possibly even interface some of the art creation into the game!
Hopefully these measures will help drive some traffic to TheBroth.com so that we can go back to the vibrant community it once promised to sustain.
Kind regards,
Markus |
