Random public rooms should appear on the home page when you enter the site
I own the public room www.thebroth.com/the_green_room
and i am sick to death of having no one on it. so much so that i have created a masterpiece
BUT i wanted to share the feeling with others
My innovative suggestion is a must |

tennant, I like the idea. The main page should show 3-5 public boards. |

I think what people sometimes forget is that they meet up in rooms not because a room is somehow cool, but because of the people in it.
We have thousands of rooms. Listing empty rooms where nobody is in it wouldn't be of much use. I certainly wouldn't want to go into an empty room and drag tiles around all alone.
If you have created a masterpiece, copy it to the public gallery, watch the ratings and see whether others agree with your self-assessment.
If they do, they will remember your name, maybe comment on your artwork, maybe send you a personal message, whatever... but they will make efforts to work together with you.
This doesn't mean they necessarily want to be in your room - from your point of view, what is great about your room anyway? The colors? The artwork contained in it? We already have the public gallery so we can look at the better artworks.
I mean, it can't be artwork that you feel is why people should come to your room, since you'd invite others to CHANGE it rather than to sit there admiring your work, right?
I feel that the new "recent member activity" display that we have in the profile is much better suited to actually allow users to find "where the action is".
A list of 1000s of empty rooms, or a random display of empty rooms as you're suggesting may not be all that useful. Your room would be shown, what, once every few years? - yep, our users have created that many rooms, with the overwhelming majority of these being empty at any given point in time.
Remember those users that used to post their rooms in the forum, just lke you? I don't think that's how people find their rooms and begin to work together all that much.
It's more like, you see an artwork in the gallery, and you wonder whether you can work together with the maker or the contributors next time.
Just posting a room url will not do much at all, I'm afraid. People don't want to be in a particular room, they want to play and create art together - and that's just not the same thing. |

| Well I wouldnt have it display empty rooms. Perhaps display a random selection of public rooms containing 2+ players? However that recent action list is a good point and that is better than this idea. |

Stephen, you gotta stop running around begging for pluses and for people to come to your room!
Just for your information:
This "get 50 players to your room" award is actually not working right at the moment, or at least not how it was intended!
Currently you get this award if people that ARE already on TheBroth are coming to your room. That's not particularly award-worthy though.
The award is meant for users that attract 50 new players to TheBroth from OUTSIDE TheBroth! It's basically an award for promoting TheBroth.
I hope this clears things up. Almost everyone that has this award will lose it in the next few days when we have this award fixed. Sorry!
PS. There are some other awards we'll adjust as well, just to make it fairer and better.
So, everyone, you can stop wasting your time going to rooms begging for pluses without having moved any tiles in that room. These pluses will not count and any award gained by begging (or just by randomly receiving + for no apparent reason) will soon disappear. |
