The Forever missing Dollar...........

OK my dad told me this at dinner see if you can figure it out.

Three guys decide to rent a room at a hotel. The room is 30$. They give the guy 30$, each putting in 10$. But then once the guys settle in the room the manager says to the person "Why did you charge him 30$ it's on sale for 25$" So they send a worker down to the room with 5$. The guys give the worker a tip of 2$ and split rest between themselves. Making them each give only 9$ to the room. 9$ multiplied by 3$ equals 27$ plus 2$ they gave the worker is 29$ what happened to the last dollar

I remember this trick and I've finally figured it out a while ago. It's supposed to be the $27 that they "paid" and the $3 they kept. Because if you say they paid $27, that is already the money they gave to the worker.

Can't help but have to chime in (hope I am not spoiling this for anyone):

What each of the three guys got back was in fact $5/3, namely $1.67. Means, what each really should have paid for each room is thus $8.33. ($8.33 x 3 = $25).

Since the 3 of them gave a total tip of $2, this corresponds to each of them keeping one dollar, and giving 0.67 to the worker.

So from the original $10 bill they gave, each of the guys is now left with one dollar. The 9 dollars that is gone is made up of $8.33 to the hotel and $0.67 to the worker.

So they gave away a total of $27 and kept $3.

It all works out, nothing missing at all
