For the longest time, users that weren't registered couldn't chat. Part of this was to keep the chat "family-safe" and part of this was to create an incentive to register.
We have now changed this, and non-registered users from now on can chat in all public rooms.
They still cannot chat in members or friends-only rooms.
Why did we do that, you ask? Well, it's been hard for new users to chat amongst themselves or with experienced members in the room, so the hurdle to "get hooked" (and/or to discover just how great TheBroth is) was probably higher than necessary.
We still would like users to register, but we're now thinking that TheBroth is possibly more fun for new users if you can immediately chat without even having to sign up, at least in public rooms.
As many users have pointed out, the public rooms are a bit of a Wild West anyway, in terms of inappropriate things being depicted. By opening the chat to new users, we'll probably invite even more inappropriate conduct, but at the same time, we all know how the public rooms can be and we know what to expect.
This is a trial, and if the public room chat feature is being abused, we'll take it off again. For now, let's see how it goes. |
