i am really sick of tile rotation. also, tile textures make it super easy to make each tile into "pieces" to assemble effortlessly into a "puzzle" which tkaes all the effort out of the broth.
i say we keep it as it was before.
please? |

What is exactly is "the new stuff"? Please explain so that we know what we're voting on.
How exactly are you sick of tile rotation? Have you been using it too much so that you're now sick of it?
I have yet to see anyone use tile textures so easily, making better looking artworks easier than ever before. Only because "puzzles" are possible, it will not create automatically better artworks.

I don't understand - you don't have to use rotation and textures, right? You can use it exactly in the same way as before! |

People are often resistant to change. The old idea of the mosaic was challenging. I think the new features of rotation and textures can be a little intimidating to those of us who are used to the older, more straightforward way of tiling.
The options that come from these two features are staggering. There's almost too much you can do with a mosaic now, so that some people may not know where to begin.
I know the first time that I saw the circle appear around the tile, I was a little overwhelmed. Do I rotate it, or don't I? Hmmm... I should write a blog about it.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing. If I were new coming to this site, I wouldn't think anything of it. As an old-timer, it takes some getting used to.

Roman Centurion, I couldn't agree with you more if I wanted to.
In fact, I was going to write a whole developer blog entry on this myself, based on the suspicion that the new unlimited freedom might just be a tad intimidating, causing paralysis amongst previously rather prolific TheBrothers.
With tile rotation and custom textures, suddenly, there is an option to make new artworks look very polished. Before, you could get away with the "jaggies" and all, because, after all, these were the limitations of TheBroth.
Now, you have rotations, so if you don't use it, it will show ugly jaggies... but using rotation on each tile may mean a lot more work, and to make it look cool, it may require a lot more talent too.
So, with these new options that were requested over and over again (rotation and textures), have we actually shot ourselves in the foot? Is TheBroth and its freedom so great that it becomes paralysing all over again?
Moving 1000 tiles was easy. Moving 1000 tiles and adding 1000 rotation angles, plus choosing a cool texture just because you can - that may in fact take away from the immediacy of art creation.
It's an amazing dilemma, but in a way, I feel that crazily enough, the "more is less" paradigm is once more confirmed. Once we went live with rotation and textures, the number of artworks posted went down straight away.
Maybe some people think that if there's a way to make their creations look better, they rather just give up and think of it as being in the "too hard basket". It's a tragedy in some ways.
Mind you, reading the updated "How to play" helps a lot to be very efficient using the new abilities. At the same time, when I look at some of the old, unrotated artworks, I wonder how we even bothered moving some tiles in this restricted context, when what you can achieve with rotation is so much better.
So - have the new features widened the gap between "real" artists and "the rest of us"? |

i must say that in good old days making a choice of what do next was quite easy. But in better new glittering Broth it has got alot harder not only just because you have these kewl options that add enormous freedom and you can make whatever you want to but also because now you have to add more of perfection cause New broth doesnt leave you with any excuses
but one thing is clear that its for good cause better work will come out. and those who don't like changes well they can always drag and drop like old days
and i don't see any gap or whatever if you choose to have a better mosaic you just have better tools now |

The new things i speak of are tile rotation and custom textures. the thing is, naturally i could go ahead and do it the old way, but then others would be biased to rate my stuff with a minus sign, because i COULD have made it less jagged, COULD have made it a perfect circle, and so on. and also, the wheel thing that pops around a tile when you click it is
SO
ANNOYING
no offense or anything. Plus the fact that when i go to click another tile, i (50% of the time) end up turning the one i used before. it's very irritating.
irritating...annoying... i see a pattern. i really dont mean to insult any of the people who spent a huge amount of their time making this, and sorry to be the only one who complains, but it's my point of view. and i rule the world, so you must listen.
that's my rant. |

Viv you are far too young to be not able to cope with change...
Give the new toys a chance and try them out in a finished art work before you decide you that don't like them... |

well i don't like the fact that if few people cant cope with change others should be deprived of better things as well. And yes people are going to "compare" the stuff that they see in same gallery, if its jagged and not creative people may bury it as well, fair i think.
and yup i am not big fan of "now visible disk" but thats there to help i guess to new bees.[/quote] |

i would like it if you could choose to enable tile rotation or disable it in your room when you make it. it slows down my window and progress is VERY slow. maybe we could do that?
dont forget, if me and billy bob thornton arm-wrestled, i would win. |

| i would also like it if you could turn off at least the circle part of the rotation as i find it is getting in my way - i see the advantages for tile rotation but the circle area that comes up when you move over any tile is really irritating |

Valid point, Rhain.
I think that you could get used to the rotation, but it would be nice to only activate it when you want to, and not have it come on automatically at the end of moving a tile.
I didn't notice it at first because I tried rotating with the keypad.
And yes, it does hold people up to a higher standard. But I will persevere with my primitive mosaic efforts. It's a good thing I don't embarrass easily.
Did I say that out loud? |

Just an update: We've switched off the red ring when you click on a tile. Naturally it's still there for keyboard navigation using the cursor keys.
The not-so-invisible disk has given rise to confusion. Did you know it actually has absolutely zero effect? It does nothing. It's just eye candy. Rotation works with or without that not-so-invisible disk
To stop this confusion, we've switched off the not-so-invisible disk for now. In the future, we may make it an option to it switch on/off in the profile, in case anyone misses it. Personally, I like it... it's good feedback when you rotate a tile.
And the biggest news is: We may in fact re-instate a "classic mode" without tile rotation and custom textures, and even separate artworks made with rotation/textures into an "advanced mode" gallery.
Comments and suggestions on this plan are very welcome! |

| I think that the red arrows give people new to thebroth a look at some of the features. They DO get annoying if you are working on a big project, though. |
