I think it would be a great feature to implement partially transparent tiles, that way you could create even cooler colors by overlapping tiles. Kind of like watercolors in a way. Or say making a mosaic out of tissue paper.
Anyways, I don't think this falls under the "Why don't we implement colored backgrounds" any more than the new tile rotation thing does. Please implement it! |

Well, who says we won't have colored backgrounds one day?
We may even have transparent tiles! Pigs may fly! Nothing's impossible!
Just wait a bit and see... good things are coming! |

You said we won't have colored backgrounds right here:
http://www.thebroth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=158
And I quote:
"This topic has come up frequently, and I agree with all the benefits and the variety that colored backgrounds would bring to those that wish to draw on colored backgrounds.
Yet, we're not going to support it." |

I'm glad there are so many responses to this. Just in case you wonder, I didn't forget what I said back in July 2006. I even remember a time when I thought TheBroth shouldn't have chat, can you imagine? Boy, was I wrong there...
Tile rotation has changed the face of TheBroth (or at least it will, once we're out of beta). I'll admit that when TheBroth was planned, we toyed with the idea of going with Flash so we could have rotation and other nifty features. Eventually we didn't, and so the self-imposed limitations by going with Javascript instead of Flash simply put a technical "no" to most requests for advanced features.
When we considered going with Flash so we could have rotation and nifty features, we didn't foresee just how amazing these nifty features would be, once we had rotation! We didn't foresee the new direction TheBroth would take, where it on one hand allows much more flexibility for the room owner and solo artist, while on the other hand it fully retains the simplicity for those that just want to drag tiles. Rotation is an example of this - you don't actually have to rotate the tiles.
We've learned a lot over the last 10 months, and we'll continue to keep the core of TheBroth simple. Simplicity is still key. The important aspects of collaborative working together will all remain fully intact.
We also became more confident about what TheBroth is. With the tile rotation, TheBroth has made a gigantic step from being a mosaic-like artform to... well, a mosaic! The original moniker "The Global Mosaic" applies again. We figured, hmm, now that we have rotation, we're so close to a mosaic, so what is actually missing to REALLY be one, so TheBroth could become interesting and to be taken seriously by real mosaicists?
You can probably guess where this is going - and yep, we're working on it. So, we're no longer afraid of TheBroth becoming a mini-Photoshop. With tile rotation alone, TheBroth already allows you to do things and a type of artistic expression you couldn't even do in Photoshop.
So once again, I can only hint, good things are coming. We need to get our prototype tested first, and then we'll probably release rotation with a number of new features that are so hot, it will blow the lid off TheBroth.
For those who think I've changed my mind, let me finish this post by paraphrasing Donny Deutsch:
"I was often wrong but never in doubt." |

| Change is good Markus. I'm glad you finally realize that. (P.S., you have changed your mind) Thanks for not making us feel stupid anymore. |

If even misspatronize^H^H^H^H^H I mean misschatterbox gives her approval, we must be onto a good thing. |
