I decided to make a new thread to try to get back on topic.

I have a question about the Israel/Palestine thing...I'm not an expert by any means on this one and don't know much to be honest but from what I understand, lately when Israel has been fighting with Palestine it originated because the Palestinians were engaging in many terrorist attacks including suicide bombing against Israel. But earlier shehtaz said that the Palestinians were defending themselves. Can you or someone else go into more detail about the situation?

Thanks but actually I was looking for more personal opinion. Surprisingly to me I actually knew most of that article. I noticed shehtaz had said that Palestine was protecting themselves from Israel but others say it's Israel protecting themselves for Palestine. From what I've understood it's both Jews and Muslims fighting over the holy land.

I guess it depends who you are biased towards or agianst. Personally I think that they should carve the land in half and both countries should have equal shares.
I was annoyed however the way Israel was demonised in the media just because they have superior firepower. (thanks to their American friends)

Thanks for getting us back on topic, IM. You should never have gone off topic in the first place, but I can empathize with why you did.

Your breezy analysis of the situation is a little simplistic. Jews and Muslims fighting over the Holy Land is simply a pretext for their hatred.

I'm reminded of the South Park episode(s) where Cartman is propelled into a future where Atheism has replaced all religions. They still fight, but now it's over their Atheism. The point? People will fight no matter what the "-ism" is.

Iranians don't care about who owns Palestine. People need to hate something, and that's their thing. It's like picking on the nerdy kid at school, or hating Wal-Mart, or imagining that you were impregnated by aliens. People gotta have a cause.

Roman, I believe that it is overly simplified due to the fact that ImmortalMadness does not know enough about the situation to come up with such opinions and statements. In the end, that is the reason of this second thread, to become educated. He made this thread to get back on topic, but adding coals to a weary fire is not appreciated. I myself know nothing of this topic, so it's great to hear everyone's opinions, I just do not believe that anyone should sidestep by adding allusions to the former thread. Thanks Razz

Thanks for your input, Nammie, but it's off-topic. Please feel free to send me a message if you wish to discuss it further, or you may wish to start another thread. A good place to post a reply might be in the previous "off topic" thread.

In my previous post, I provided three paragraphs of information relevant to this thread, and I am not sure what you're referring to as sidestepping.

The war in Iraq has very little to do with Israel and Palestine. We saw the whole Israel-bashing in the first Gulf War when Iraq fired scud missiles at Israel in order to bring more Muslims to its side.

We see it now with the president of Iran trying to inflame hatred against Israel, and tie that in with the occupation of Iraq.

The Holy Land is a hot button for the region, and the leaders and organizations who push that button are doing so for their own gain, and not for the sake of religion.

I would just like to say that as a person with no input such as voting, in the real world that is. I find it very disturbing in my classrooms when I hear kids (my age) talking about the war and how it is neccessary and how they hate "Arabs". I think children and young adults are being brought up in this world with no true opinion and are just listening to what their parents say.
Which leads to a future wold of hate. I think all people should be brought up on the fact that all life is price-less and should not be wasted on such trivial matters. Everybody should just get along, that is what most people learn before they can talk. It should be our's- not just America's- but every human's main goal in life, to live a peaceful being and to find tranquility.
