I've requested this before and it was accepted except with the new features and a person's online status popping up everywhere around the site the other feature had no purpose as it was just removed.
I would like there to be a way to hide my online status so I can come on broth without anyone knowing without at least doing a little bit of detective work. I think this feature has worked well on other sites such as myspace (yes I know this is not myspace just making a point).
My opinion, anyone else agree? |

We had this on our to-do list, but the new user tracking and friends system etc has made the "hide my online status" thing partly contradictory and partly more complex.
We're in the process of changing quite a few core things under the hood. These changes also affect the online/friends/user tracking system.
There are a couple of issues with it we need to work out. For example, normally when you comment on somebody's artwork, they get an instant message. Should that be surpressed if you're "hidden"? In this case, I'd think, "yes". But if you're "hidden" and in a mosaic, should the active rooms page hide you even when you're in a non-hidden or public room? I think, "no".
Anyway, I agree that hiding your online status can become very useful indeed, in particular to help against stalking and harassing, but we'll need to get a few more things ironed out before we can implement this in a meaningful way.
Right now, with TheBroth not receiving a lot of traffic, it's probably not so urgent yet, but when we'll get really busy, I think being able to hide your online status is an important addition to the privacy aspects of TheBroth. |
