Categories in the Gallery

Hi,
I was wondering...it might be a good idea to give people ability to sort snapshots by categories - I guess it would be quite interesting if you could enter the gallery of e.g. animals, portraits, landscapes and so on. Sub-categories would be also good idea - like e.g. "eyes", "cats", "boats". This is just a suggestion, What do you think about it?
BTW: I love Broth. You don't find much public sites with such cool people comitted to such a great thing:-).

I voted no.

I don't believe there is any reason to change the system. At the moment you get a fabulous mix of pictures of all kinds...some of them would be impossible to catagorise anyway, and I'd hate to have the dreaded 'Misc.'

Let's leave the pictures mixed in the wonderful 'Broth' that they are and enjoy each for it's own merits. Wink

i like it how it is personally...i voted no also. also, it wud b annoying/timely(er) to have to go into catregories and then even SUB catagories Shocked

Thanks for your posts. I wouldn't want to change now existing gallery, I thought that there would be some extra option. Anyway, on my way back home from work (Broth made me stay longer:)) I rethought the idea - it's probably good the way it is, categorizing would make us compare and that is not what it is all about. Wink

I think this could work, if you had the Gallery the way it is, but if there was a category that linked certain pictures together.

For example, if the Gallery remained the same as it is now, but out of curiosity you wanted to see all the pictures that fit the "Flowers/Nature" category you could click on a link and it would direct you to view pictures of ONLY that category. It could work and I've been curious myself to know what pictures would go into a category. To sort them out.

Maybe we can categorize pictures by putting "tags" on them, much like last.fm, addictingclips.com, etc.

I should chime in here and perhaps pre-empt this topic a little bit: TheBroth will have tags for the snapshots.

Like many of the more obvious useful improvements for TheBroth, this has been planned for a long time, and soon will become a reality.

Every registered user of TheBroth will be able to add tags to any snapshot. The tags feature will be released with an equally useful tag moderation feature, where everyone can indicate with a simple click as to whether a tag on a snapshot is useful or should be deleted.

You will be able to browse the snapshots by tag (ie. category) in a directory-like fashion, and you will be able to search the gallery by tag (ie. keyword).

We are in the process of implementing the tags system for the gallery snapshots. As of now, you can add tags to snapshots.

You can now search for tags and browse the "tag cloud" of popular tags!

"Animal" is the most popular tag at the time of posting this.
