I fully agree that in view of the agegroup that uses Broth there should never be any Sexual pictures exposed to children (private rooms ..ok) but what about nudity as portrayed in clasical art. Do the members think that 'tastefull nudity' as displayed to all ages in art galleries, and painted or drawn by just about every acomplished artist, is unsuitable for display? I'm not talking about wanton, deliberate, display of sexual organs but just a celebration of the beauty of the human form as appreciated by all art lovers throughout the ages. Perhaps if we freak out at the sight of a nipple we have to reconsider our own problems with sexuality.
What do you think? |
I see what you mean with this, I wanted to do a version of Venus de Milo riding on a seashell completely nude, tastefully done by Botticelli. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandro_Botticelli
I think Broth replicas of great master's nude art should be okay to do. |

| To be honest I think you're right, my only rider is that we are a community and if some people are offended then I for one would certainly defer to the concencus. However, I really would like to see your 'Venus'...go for it I say. |

There is a vast difference between art and Pornography. Children regularly attend art galleries where nude paintings occupy a lot of wall space.
Some of the most famous and applauded works are of human nudity (both male and female).
These concentrate on the beauty of human form, NOT on certain parts of the human body or sexual references.
I do appreciate, however, that the Broth is an International site, and the levels of acceptance of nudity is bound to vary accross nations, especially where there is a strong religious factor within their society. To those who, for various reasons, are offended by even 'tastefull' nudity I would appologise if anything I produce or have said upsets them, but I would ask them to see that this is an ever shrinking and changing world, thanks to the Internet and wonderful resources like the Broth.
It is interesting to note also, that the vast majority of 'crude' depictions are done not by the mature Broth'ers but by the younger members...the ones we would try to protect.
Art comes in many guises but I don't think anyone would be fooled into accepting gratuitous filth as art, so, if people are sensible, then lets hope no offence will be given.

Tel i couldn't say it better than you did.
Shehz I to hate seeing the rubbish that the newbies and visitors create and destroy them when I can but I have done nude or very bare pictures (you just need look to your left at my dear little fairy avatar she is fairly bare) and if they have upset you I'm very sorry but they are acceptable in my culture and I like them so they exist.
Your a very nice girl and I wouldn't want to upset you. |

Well.. Its been long I am outta here and its kinda fun to see you all engaged in such a hot debate.. (I am officially still out.. cause I have some more days to finish my exams )
Shehzeen, the artwork under consideration shook me a little too.. cause I followed the link to find that I myself had given it a - earlier.. But I think it is about the differences among societies.. If you see who have given it + you will find many of those are regular to broth and connoisseurs of broth-arts.. And the art didn't bother them a little.. So, please don't get shocked so easily.. I am not saying it is bad that we did not like it.. but it is also not bad that they did.. And moreover.. I have seen worse in many rooms..really..
Whatever.. How are you all?? Bye.. |

Obviously we will never see eye to eye on this.
I find this particular picture inoffensive. The couple are clothed suitably in my view (all 'personal' parts covered). This has to go down as a difference in individual sensitivity, and I respect your right to express your views just as I reserve the right to express mine. |

this isnt 1 of the worse pictures i've seen, approrietness-wise. and i can c y u mite notlike it, and thats fine. every1 can ahve their opinions.
another thing (sry if im getting off topic...but) i always feel bad when its some1's 1st art and they r all proud of it, and its usually HALF decent...sometimes on the border of + and -. so i give a +, cuz otherwise i feel bad like im dicouraging that person. but my reason for giving a - wud b cuz im COMPARING it to other artworks i've seen. such as some in the top 15 and stuff...so its kinda unfair to compare, i know. but then what r we roting on? lol....so....um, ya. ~ |
