I think it would be good to have a shout box on the site. We are from all around the world so while some people are having their evening-the-broth-session, others are in deep sleep. Shout box would allow us to comunicate with people from different time zones.
What's more, I think there should be ability to leave a message in chat room. For example, you must leave the room so you write 'If you like, you can add legs to this creature' (so that poeple who would come later would know what to do) or you see great stuff in a room but the author is away so you write 'good beginning but i think you should add some more reddish tiles'. Finally, you can write 'i'm away, be right back' so that newcomers wouldn't think you are rude when you don't respond while being away.

Can you explain how a shout box works - have you seen one somewhere else?
I like your idea of being able to leave a message in a room - I often thought that it would be handy to do that - great idea!  Tame |

Just to make sure you know - we're aware of this request and we're already working on how to best implement it.
We need to make it so it can't be abused easily by non-registered users. In principle, what we intend to do is this:
Each message shows a time stamp so you know how long ago it was sent. Messages of registered members stay forever and will be in the backscroll buffer when you join a room.
There's a limit though - if there were too many messages, you might not see them all when you enter a room. Only 25 of the latest messages (of members only) will be displayed.
How does this solution sound? |
