Could you describe exactly what happens when you try to get into a room?

When was the last time you were in a room?

Hi Morning Star - the last time things seemed to be working normally was Sunday 18th as i was at a friends house and was showing her the Broth. Since then, back at home, when i click on a room of my own or in active, I get half the page, with the usual headings and subheadings and the ads, but no room. Today, i notice that when i click on thumbnails in gallery, the screen comes up blank with the info about who did it etc, peoples comments but with no picture in the room.

Is it anything to do with not having Adobe flash as i have been trying to download that many times unsuccessfully.

Thanks - hope you can help as I cannot access anything to move any tiles at the mo - Tame Swallow

Think it's flash.
I was using a computer without Flash, and tried to get in - no rooms.
I added Flash to that computer - now it works.

Yes indeed. You need Adobe Flashplayer.

You can get it from here: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

Admittedly, now that TheBroth needs Flash (version 8 or higher, to be specific), our old boasting of "no plugin required, nothing to download" isn't really quite true anymore.

I think it's justifiable though, since over 98% of all computers do have the Flash plugin installed. Those without Flash can't even view a simple youtube video, since that's also Flash based. So, for these 98% of us that do have Flash installed, there is still nothing to download to enjoy TheBroth.

Browsing the web without Flash is soon going to be just as unthinkable as browsing the web with JavaScript disabled. In the past, one could get away with it, and it would help keeping those pesky pop-up windows away, but these days lots of better solutions exists against pop-ups, and today hardly any web site would still be usable with Javascript disabled (including TheBroth).

You can still read my blog without Flash, though.
And that makes it all worthwhile.

TS, I wondering whether it could be other add-ons on your computer that interfere with Flash player.

But first, what is your operating system (XP or Vista), and which browser are you using? (IE or Firefox)?

What is the exact version of the browser you're using?

Hi TS,

do you have access to a browser other than IE? If so, please try to see if you get the same problem when using the non-IE browser. I suspect it is a browser browser-level problem, but we can't be sure.

Hi TS,

If trying a different browser doesn't work, then give this a try. Go to any page that has flash on it with "?detectflash=false" at the end of the URL. For example, try the mosaic room:

http://www.thebroth.com/mosaic?detectflash=false

If the room loads ok, and you can move tiles, then it could mean that there is something wrong with our Flash player detection system. Otherwise, it could mean that you have a corrupt install of the Flash player.

Next, try loading the following page. You should see a nice animation of an orange sun above green mountains.

http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/swfobject.html

Following that, please go to this page. It should print out a message saying which Flash version you have.

http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/flashversion.html

Please let us know whether these tests work for you. Let us know if the mosaic room loads, if the sun animation displays, and also what the flash version message says.

If these tests fail, then you may have a corrupt install of Flash player. Don't worry, you just have to uninstall and re-install the Flash player.

Get an uninstaller here: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157

And then the latest flash player here: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

We hope all this helps. We want to get this problem fixed as soon as possible. Smile
