Since the beginning of TheBroth, the canvas size used to be 728x450 pixels. This is a ratio that is also known as the Golden Ratio.

The original width of 728 pixels had been chosen because standard advertising banners (such as the google adsense ads below the canvas) are of this width. The vertical dimension of the canvas was chosen as one that's close enough to the Golden Ratio, and so we came up with 450 pixels.

In the past, many users had complained that a width of 728 pixels makes it impossible to line up the squares neatly all across the width of the canvas, since each tile is 10x10 in size.

As we're in the process of an extreme makeover - from a technical point of view - of the core tile dragging system, we saw a chance to provide a remedy for this, and so from now on, the canvas size is 730x450 pixels. This is still quite close to the Golden Ratio, yet it gels better with the 10x10 tile size.

Artworks done with the old canvas size will continue to show the old, smaller canvas background. New snapshots will be shown using the new, wider canvas.

PS. For most artworks that don't use a frame made of tiles this tiny change in canvas width is insignificant. I just wanted to announce it for those for whom this has always been a minor nuisance. Smile

Although the technical merit of this change can be appreciated despite us not really knowing how important those two pixels would be in the future given we don’t know what is to come, I don’t really see the benefit from an esthetical mosaic perspective.

The only time that 2 pixels may be a hindrance is for those that insist on creating yet more borders. The basic snapshot comes with one so I see not benefit. I know I am guilty of using a border in the past that was in the past and I have learned since then that they do not really benefit the final image.

Consider also if you will those of you who wish to make use of the final image adjustment feature considered a future enhancement. You can only move all the tiles at the same time (just before a final save) and you can only move within the bounds of the canvas.
If you have artistically spent time building a border to the exact size of the canvas you will not be able to move anything. Smile

Hehe, that's right. A little message will pop up that says "Your pic has a frame and that's why it's ^%$# and that's why now you can't move the $#@^ thing." LOL

In a way that new feature is a frame detector of its own kind. "That'll learn 'em..." hehe

Shocked I get the distinct impression that Markus doesn't like frames on Broth pictures.
