is it true that there are 9 planets in are solar system? Mars Mercury Earth Venus Jupiter Saturn Neptune Uranus (no Pluto) and planet X I'm quite sure about the last one , I heard about it somewhere or did they disprove it? Planets were easier with:
My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas
lol thats how I learned the order of the planets, but I always got messed up with Mars and Mercury becuase they start with M.

Well holly there r 9 planets and the last 1 is pluto. As far as i hav heard although planet x was named a planet when discovered i believe now they think its a moon of some other planet. Im not very sure. But wat i do know is pluto does exist and it is the ninth planet from the sun.

There has recently been considerable controversy about the classification of Pluto. It was classified as the ninth planet shortly after its discovery and remained so for 75years.But on 24 August 2006,the IAU decided on a new definition of 'planet' which does not include pluto.Pluto is now classified as a 'dwarf planet',a class distinct from planet. While this may be controversial at first,it is my hopethat this ends the empty debate about pluto's status so that we can get on with the real science of figuring out pluto's real physical nature and history.
Furthermore, after many research done by scientists and mathematicians on PLANET X,it has been proved that planet X had never existed.Planet X is a hypothetical planet.
In brief,we've got only 8 planets in our solar system today...others are just heavenly bodies!

Hmmm I thought there were 9 including Pluto too. After reading Puppy's post about the reclassification (which I hadn't heard about lol) I've picked 8 in the poll to be "technically correct". Although in my mind Pluto will always be a planet no matter what those who get to make the decisions say.

As for Planet X, I'll wait until the arguments settle down a bit before I make my mind up on that one.

I was kinda blown away by how Pluto was dismissed as a planet...you don't expect to see that everyday! I don't know the planets that have been added to the solar system, but it feels strange and incomplete somehow...all these years we always thought Pluto was a planet, and now it's not anymore. It's funny how easily things can be dismissed in science.

That's exactly how I see it. How come some scientists can suddenly say that Pluto isn't a planet after billions of us have been taught all our lives that it is? Confused

I have voted for 8 planets on the poll coz we have no other options left. All in a sudden, pluto is no longer a planet. I don't think it is justified. Sad

well, just because we're taught one way doesn't make it so. Science is science because people are always looking to disprove something.

I chose nine because to me I think that Pluto is a planet (even if the experts dismissed it!)just because it's "too" small! I think that's not right.... That's like saying....... "You're not part of this family because you are too small" Shocked JUST IMAGINE!!! Kids all over the World being dismissed by their parents... (which btw happens like nearly everyday, but not becaues the child is small, just because the parent/s can't look after the child.... BUT THAT'S WAY OFF THE TOPIC!!)So ya..... But I suppose the "right" answer is 8... Sad Crying or Very sad Sad Crying or Very sad
