Player world map

September 6th, 2006 in New Features

This world map shows the geographic location of the most recently active players at TheBroth.com.

http://www.thebroth.com/playermap.html

Move your mouse over an icon to display this player’s name, country code, last activity and room. At the time of writing, the map only shows the 100 most recent players.

Usage tips: You can drag the map, zoom in, and pan. Use the controls in the top left of the map.

A few notes: This map is based on free IP geolocation data from MaxMind. Our license requires us to state that this product includes GeoLite data created by MaxMind, available from http://www.maxmind.com/.

Since the location is based on your IP, don’t be surprised if zooming in with the satellite view reveals that your house is quite obviously located in the middle of a lake, on the other side of the country. The database is using the latitude/longitude information based on your IP, and so you’re most likely placed on the map somewhere near your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

We know that this feature has some limitations, but it’s still cool - it’s not as accurate as we would wish, but hey… this isn’t a “become a TheBroth stalker now!” feature… and I guess for the purpose of locating fellow TheBroth members it’s quite good enough for now!

it’s amazing the way that you can see exactly where you and everyone else in the world are while sitting in your own home.the internet really blankets the world.

The map pretty accurately shows where I live, it’s pretty neat to see where people live.

The map is handy because it gives atleast a rough view, if not cent percent accurate, about the location of a player.
