Is this art ? Those of you who have come in to the piece and erased everything and made the canvas white, why ? Why not just start your own new piece ? Art is supposed to be creative and constructive, those of you who came in here and erased, aren't you being destructive ? Are you really collaborating if you are just erasing ? Are you still a collaborator if you put something in the piece but you don't see it in the end product ?

And to the original creator of this image, do you care if people come in erase everything, or are you just enjoying the process and don't care about the end product ?

    Just some questions ! Let's discuss !

... Graffiti is a group room. Everyone is open to doing what they want there. The idea that once the room is filled up with stuff that it should forever remain that way is silly. If an artist wants to keep a work of theirs intact forever, a locked room or a friends only room is the way to do it. As for this room, it's a group room which basically means that anyone can do whatever they please - and if they would rather start with a blank canvas, that's their choice too. Of course, you get people who are destructive, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. *shrugs*

Well I don't think I am barking up the wrong tree, if you read my comment, take note, the whole thing is a list of questions. I was just giving my idea and also asking questions for 2 reasons. 1. I am not familiar with this thing and just joined and wanted to know what others, who have been here longer thought. and 2. I wanted to stir up some discussion. I'm sure different people have different ideas about it. But thanks for your view on things, anyone else ?

In my opinion there was nothing soo important 'under' this drawing (watch the replay), and even if there was, you can always snap the picture :) ...or make your own room, as JB said.
btw these are the looongest comments ever! ;)

interesting that you say there was nothing "soo important". But who determines what IS and ISN't "important" ? aren't there paintings that are just large canvases covered in all one or two colors (like Rothko), some people think these paintings are unimportant, or a lot of people say that they could do something like that themselves and don't understand why it would hang in a museum, but still it does. so who really can determine what is and isn't ? and on what basis ? once again, just trying to bring up some issues and stir up conversation

Thank you for insulting my reading comprehension ;)

If you want to stir up discussion and not seem like someone who is merely trying to stir up trouble, you should probably use the forum instead which you can find here: http://www.thebroth.com/forum/

Yes. Go to the forum if you want to stir up conversation. My opinion is that anything can be art. Look at Dada, for example. The replay can be art. You can see the journey and progression of the piece.

And as for the blank canvas thing... no one really owns that room, so making it all white is not a bad thing. If no one ever did that, the graffiti room would always be a total mess.

OK, Jumping Buffalo, now we know we can do drawings in a "Locked" room if we don't want people to destroy the art we've added. You also say, "Everyone is open to doing what they want there." I thought this was supposed to be collaborative art here. Aren't you just doing your own thing if you "do what YOU want" rather than collaborate?

"But who determines what IS and ISN't "important" ?" The artists do! If someone likes what s/he drew, they will probably take the snapshot.. And as far as I know no one complained about their arwork being destroyed, so I dont see the point of this discussion

devilsadvocate - go to the forum. I don't think it's fair to clutter up the comments for this person's art with philosophical debate (if that's what you want to call this).
