    You know an ostrich doesn't really bury his head in the sand when danger threatens. Perhaps it's to find bugs for food.

    Only we wish we could do that head in the sand thing.

    Maybe we just ought to run away like they do (50 miles an hour). ...but they kick out with their powerful legs and sharp toes to protect themselves.

    Maybe we should grow our toe nails and shape it like theirs. hehehe

    Speedy you must have been watching the same TV programme as me this week, when they said the very same thing! So I wonder where the idea came from that ostriches bury their head in the sand?

    Hi Tame. I found this....

    The myth may have resulted from the fact that, from a distance, when ostriches feed they appear to be burying their head in the sand because they deliberately swallow sand and pebbles to help grind up their food. Burying their heads in sand will in fact suffocate the ostrich.
