   based on snapshot 677 with the original bonsai tree. i removed the vertical borders and to create a more balanced snapshot, I added the chinese characters for "peace" on the right of the bonsai. at least i'm hoping it says "peace"!
   
   the rest of the tiles are hidden.

   I like the idea, but I think that actually makes it less balanced. I would have made Japanese characters, a little smaller and not at the vertical center of the bonsai.

   i found these characters not chinese but japanese "peace". perhaps i made these characters one under the other. but all the way it's great

   Hey tilepusher! Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked and the funny thing is that the Japanese and Chinese characters for peace are the same, but the order of the characters are reversed.
   
   If you read the characters I have created from right to left, you get "peace" in Japanese, if you read the characters from left to right, then you get "peace" in Chinese. I guess I went with Chinese characters because I'm more familiar with them.
   
   I see what you mean about smaller and not vertically centered of the bonsai. How about a vertical arrangement as Vivacious Pigeon has suggested?

    the japanese switch up their usage of left to right or right to left reading. for example in a japanese newspaper, the characters will often be read left to right. that is, except for the captions, which will be read right to left.

    we have a tree just like that on our coffee table, brilliant and amazing work! cleaver that the lettering reads peace in chinese and japanese too!

    Bykerbabe, I only added the Chinese characters and hid the spare tiles (hence the high tile move count, there was a lot of tiles to hide). The credit should really be going to tilepusher, he's the one who originally created the bonsai.
    
    In my opinion, without the bonsai by tilepusher, this wouldn't look like much at all.
